The Vava´u-Group has many islands (175), some
very small and uninhabited. Above the map of
the more bigger islands.

The main island with the town of Neiafu with its 5.000
citizens is
approx.100 qkm big (10 x10 km).

The islands are of vulcanic origin, therefore very
hilly. The vegetation is more dense than in
Tongatapu - Vava´u is closer to the equator, has more
rain and the temperatures are higher.

Sandy beaches cannot be found everywhere, some islands stand in the ocean like a mushroom on a rock.

The beaches are of extraordinary beauty with
sand soft like baby-powder. All islands are surrounded
by reefs with an abundance of life in it, ideal for
snorkeling or diving. On the beaches you may
find washed out caves or wholes in the ground
filled with seawater in which you can swim like
you are in a pool, accompanied by tiny fishes
glittering like diamonds in the sunshine.

Vava´u has no rivers or running sweet water and only
one sweet water lake, Lake ´Ano.

If you take a sailing trip you may see dolphins, seaturtles
and during the whale season (June-Oct.) the mothers
and theirs calves can be found all around the islands
playing and jumping in the warm water.

The nature in Vava´u is of exceptional beauty and
abundance and the sight underwater while
snorkeling or diving is truly breathtaking.
